Malta’s Digitalise Your SME Grant: Could It Help Build What Your Business Needs Next?

Malta’s Digitalise Your SME grant could help eligible businesses invest in meaningful digital projects, from customer platforms and tailored applications to automation and appropriate AI integrations.

Every business has a process that makes people say, “There must be a better way to do this.”

Perhaps orders arrive through three different channels and someone has to piece them together. Perhaps customers cannot check their own information without calling your team. Or perhaps you have an idea for a useful digital service, but building it properly has always felt like too large an investment.

Malta’s Digitalise Your SME grant could help turn the right kind of idea into a working solution. The opportunity is bigger than putting another tool on your desk. It is about making the way your business works better.

What is the Digitalise Your SME grant?

Digitalise Your SME is a grant for eligible micro, small and medium-sized businesses investing in digital technology. It is intended to help SMEs improve how they operate, serve customers and make use of information.

Under Call 2, support can reach up to €120,000 for eligible digitalisation projects, with up to an additional €100,000 for qualifying AI-related investment. Those are maximum thresholds, not amounts every business will receive. The grant contributes towards approved costs, so your business would still need to invest in the project.

The exciting part is what that investment could make possible: a more connected operation, a better customer experience, or a digital product your team has wanted to build for years.

What could a project look like?

Imagine customers logging into a portal instead of emailing for an update. Picture an online ordering system connected to the people and processes that fulfil each order, or a tailored application that replaces repetitive work across several spreadsheets.

These are the sorts of problems a well-designed digital project can address. Depending on the business and the proposed solution, that might mean:

  • a customer platform or portal;
  • an e-commerce system with meaningful operational functionality;
  • a custom web application;
  • practical automation;
  • an appropriate AI-enabled feature or integration.

Call 2 also gives SMEs room to explore AI where it has a real job to do. That might be helping staff work with information more effectively or introducing an AI-enabled feature into an existing process.

The strongest starting point is not “we need AI”. It is “what would make this business easier to run or easier to use?”

Would a new website qualify?

Possibly, but it depends on what the website actually does.

A standard promotional website, a rebrand or a marketing campaign should not be treated as a grant project simply because it is digital. The scheme is focused on productive technology, and fees for design, marketing and general consultancy are excluded from eligible expenditure.

A platform that lets customers complete important tasks, connects with business systems or changes how a service is delivered may be worth exploring. The difference lies in the purpose and specific costs of the project, not the label attached to it.

That is why we would rather have an honest conversation about your idea than promise that any website can be funded. If this grant is not the right fit, we will tell you.

Is it worth exploring for your business?

This is aimed at SMEs planning a meaningful digital investment, rather than a small one-off design job.

The minimum grant value is €25,000, and the business must be able to contribute its share of the costs. Support can cover up to 50% of eligible investment in Malta or 60% in Gozo, subject to the scheme’s conditions.

You do not need to arrive with a finished technical specification to start a conversation with Midja. You might simply know where time is being lost, what customers struggle with or which idea your current systems cannot support. That is enough to begin working out whether there is a viable project behind it.

If you want the project considered for grant support, do not start the proposed funded work before the grant is awarded.

It is worth exploring the opportunity before commissioning the build.

How Midja can help bring the idea to life

At Midja, we create digital experiences that make a brand matter and a business work better. That means looking beyond how a platform appears to how people will actually use it and what happens behind the scenes.

We can help you shape an early idea into a clear technical project, work through the features and connections it needs, and provide a proposal for the solution. Where Midja is selected in line with the grant’s procurement requirements, we can build, test and deliver the approved platform too.

If the project involves a customer portal, e-commerce, a tailored web application or an appropriate AI integration, we can help you understand what a practical implementation could look like.

Your business would be the grant applicant, and the funding authority makes the decision on eligibility and approval. We can support the technical side and work alongside your accountant or grant adviser, so you are not left trying to translate a business idea into software requirements on your own.

Thinking about a digital project? Let’s talk.

The published 2026 cut-off dates include:

  • 16 October 2026;
  • 30 October 2026;
  • 13 November 2026;
  • 30 November 2026;
  • 14 December 2026.

That gives businesses more than one opportunity to put forward a well-considered project. Dates and call details can change, so check the official grant page before making plans.

If you have been thinking about a customer platform, a better way to manage operations or a digital service you have not yet had the chance to build, this could be the moment to explore it.

Start with what you want to improve. We can help you work out what the solution should look like and whether the grant is a sensible route.

Get in touch with Midja and tell us what you would like to improve. We will help you explore the opportunity, shape the technical solution and, where the fit is right, build something that makes a genuine difference to your business.
